Long Distance Moving with Spyder

What makes a move long distance, and how is it priced?

Any move over roughly 100 miles, or across a state line, is a long distance move: Oxford to Denver, Memphis to Hattiesburg, Colorado Springs to Jackson. Spyder Moving and Storage prices these moves by three things, mileage, the weight of the shipment and the space it takes on the truck, and puts the price in writing after a virtual or in-person inventory. Your shipment travels on a Spyder truck with a Spyder crew from pickup to delivery, not a broker’s carrier. Start your long distance estimate with your two addresses and a move month.

“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

How long does a long distance move take?

Pickup happens on a specific date, not a window: if Spyder Moving and Storage says Tuesday, the truck loads Tuesday. Transit time follows the Department of Transportation rule in the company policy: the driver stops after 600 miles or 10 hours of driving, whichever comes first. That turns the routes our five offices run most often into a predictable number of driving days.

RouteHighway distanceDriving days (600 mi / 10 h per day)
Denver, CO – Memphis, TNabout 1,050 miles2 days
Denver, CO – Oxford, MSabout 1,130 miles2 days
Colorado Springs, CO – Memphis, TNabout 1,000 miles2 days
Memphis, TN – Hattiesburg, MSabout 295 miles1 day
Memphis, TN – Oxford, MSabout 80 milessame day (often booked as a local move)
Denver, CO – Colorado Springs, COabout 70 milessame day, billed hourly as a local move
Distances are highway estimates from the office cities and vary by route. Weather and traffic can add a day.

Outside our three states, the destinations we drive most often have their own pages: moving to Atlanta, moving to Florida and moving to New York, with distances and driving days from every office.

Delivery comes in two pricing options. Standard business delivery gives a delivery window that starts on your first available delivery date. Express delivery dispatches your shipment ahead of the standard schedule for a higher rate. Both are on the estimate, so you choose by date and budget, not after the truck has left.

Good to know

What is included in the long distance price?

  • Inventory-based estimate: an estimator lists your furniture and boxes, by video call or in person, and the price is calculated from that list, the mileage and the truck space.
  • Blanket-wrapping and loading by a Spyder crew, with moving blankets free of charge. Boxes, tape and packing labor are added only if you ask for them.
  • Transport on a Spyder truck under USDOT 3187084 and MC-132217. Spyder does not hand shipments to third-party carriers.
  • Basic carrier liability of $0.60 per pound per item at no charge, with two full replacement options available on the estimate (see below).
  • Unloading and placement at the destination, with reassembly of what the crew took apart.

How is my shipment protected on the road?

OptionWhat it coversCost
A – Limited liabilityCarrier liability of $0.60 per pound per item, required by law and included.Free
B – Depreciated value protectionRepair cost or a cash payment at depreciated value; $250 deductible; maximum $100,000 per shipment.$10 per $1,000 of declared value (minimum charge $75)
C – Full replacement coverageReplacement value, declared at a minimum of $7 per pound; $500 deductible.$20 per $1,000 of declared value (minimum charge $100)
D – Third-party insuranceArranged by you before the move with an insurer; goods released to Spyder at $0.60 per pound.Set by the insurer

Valuation is a carrier liability level, not an insurance policy, and it excludes items such as jewelry, cash, particle-board furniture that was not disassembled, and the internal workings of electronics. The estimator walks through the options so the declared value matches what is on the truck.

Payment and what to have ready on delivery day

The deposit is paid by card when you book. The balance is due on delivery, before the crew unloads, in cash, certified check or postal money order made out to Spyder Moving Services LLC. Have two parking spaces for a 26-foot truck within 75 feet of the entrance at both addresses, and tell the office in advance if either building needs a permit, an elevator reservation or a certificate of insurance.

Why Spyder

Why choose Spyder for a long distance move?

No brokers, no hand-offs

Spyder's own employees and trucks do the move. The crew that wraps your furniture carries it in at the other end.

The pickup date is a date

Pickup is the day written in your contract, not a multi-day window. Delivery follows the Standard or Express option you choose.

One written estimate

Inventory, mileage, delivery option and protection level are on one document. The balance due at delivery is the number on that estimate.

DOT driving limits, honestly stated

Our drivers stop after 600 miles or 10 hours a day, so a two-day route is quoted as two days.

Protection you choose

Basic liability is included. Depreciated value or full replacement coverage can be added at $10 or $20 per $1,000 of declared value.

Coordinator at the pickup office

The office nearest your pickup plans the move and takes calls until delivery, daily from 7 AM to 7 PM.

How much does a long distance move cost?

Spyder Moving and Storage prices a long distance move by mileage, the weight of the shipment and the truck space it takes, after an inventory of your furniture and boxes. Packing, storage and the protection level you choose are added to the same written estimate. The price on the signed estimate is the balance due at delivery.

Do you move from Colorado to Mississippi?

Yes. Colorado to Mississippi is one of the routes Spyder runs most often, because the company has offices in Denver, Colorado Springs, Oxford and Hattiesburg. Denver to Oxford is about 1,130 highway miles, quoted as two driving days under the 600-mile daily limit.

How long does delivery take?

Transit is calculated from the DOT rule in the company policy: drivers stop after 600 miles or 10 hours a day. A 1,000-mile route is two driving days. Your delivery window starts on your first available delivery date and depends on whether you chose Standard business delivery or Express delivery.

What qualifies as a long distance move?

A move of more than about 100 miles, or any move across a state line, is a long distance move and is priced by mileage, weight and truck space rather than by the hour. Shorter moves inside one metro area are local moves billed hourly.

Is my shipment handled by the same crew from start to finish?

Yes. Spyder loads, drives and delivers with its own employees and trucks and does not broker shipments to other carriers. The crew that loads your home is responsible for it until it is unloaded.

Can my belongings go into storage if my new home is not ready?

Yes. Storage between move-out and move-in is booked together with the move through the pickup office, and the balance for delivery is settled when the shipment is delivered to the final address. Ask for storage on the estimate so the dates and price are written down.

How do I pay for a long distance move?

The deposit is paid by any major credit card online or by phone. The balance is paid at delivery, before unloading, in cash, certified bank check or postal money order made out to Spyder Moving Services LLC.
