“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

*For a sense of scale, average full-service prices in 2026 for a move of about 1,000 miles, the distance from Memphis or Oxford to New York, are $2,300–$4,900 for one bedroom and $5,000–$9,000 for four bedrooms. Good to know

How does a moving truck get to your New York address?

Commercial vehicles are banned from New York's parkways, including the Henry Hudson north of 59th Street, the FDR Drive, the Belt and the Bronx River Parkway, where stone bridges can be as low as 6 feet 11 inches. In New York City a truck stays on the official Truck Route Network and leaves it only at the intersection nearest your address. Our drivers plan the route around these rules, so send us cross streets and building entrances early.

Entering Manhattan at or below 60th Street adds the Congestion Relief Zone toll: $14.40 for a box truck like ours with E-ZPass at peak hours, $3.60 overnight. A commercial vehicle may stay up to three hours on one block, and double parking draws a $115 ticket, so unloading goes faster with a cleared curb or a building loading dock.

What do New York buildings ask for on moving day?

  • Certificate of insurance: many co-ops, condos and rental buildings will not let movers in without one naming the building. Tell our office the exact wording a week ahead.
  • Elevator reservation: book the freight or service elevator for the delivery day, and ask for the building's move hours, which are often weekdays only.
  • Walk-ups: mention every flight of stairs on the estimate, at both addresses, so the crew size and time are right.

When is the best time to move to New York?

Nor'easters are most frequent from September to April, and Central Park averages about 30 inches of snow a season, with February the snowiest month. Buffalo is a different case: lake-effect snow starts in mid-November, peaks in December and brings an average of more than 90 inches a year. Late spring and early fall are the most reliable months for a move to New York. In winter, our drivers stop when roads are unsafe, and the office calls you with the new delivery date.

What should you do after moving to New York?

Get a New York State driver license within 30 days of becoming a resident, in person at a DMV office with a vision test. Register your car within the same 30 days, with New York insurance; out-of-state coverage is not accepted for a New York registration. If you are moving back south later, Spyder runs the same routes in reverse, and our guide to moving from Tennessee to New York covers what to expect from city life.
