Local Moving with Spyder

How does a local move with Spyder work?

A local move is any move inside the same city or metro area, from a studio across town to a four-bedroom house across the county. Spyder Moving and Storage books every local move through the office nearest you, sends a crew with a 26-foot truck, blankets and dollies, and bills by the hour in 15-minute increments after a 2-hour minimum. The hourly rate for your crew size and date goes on a written estimate before moving day, so the price is clear before the truck arrives. Send your two addresses and a date for a free local moving estimate.

“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

How much do local movers cost?

Local moves are priced by time, not by weight. The final cost is the number of hours the crew works multiplied by the hourly rate on your estimate, plus any packing materials used and the protection option you choose. The rules below come from the Spyder Moving and Storage company policy and apply at every office.

ItemHow it works on a local move
Hourly rateSet per crew size and date on your written estimate. Rates change with the date, so give the exact moving day when you ask.
Minimum2 hours per job. After that, time is billed in 15-minute increments.
Clock starts and stopsStarts when the crew arrives at your first address and stops when they leave your last one. Driving between the two addresses counts as labor time.
Arrival window2-hour window for morning jobs, 3-hour window for afternoon jobs. If the crew is late, you receive a $15 credit for each hour of delay.
Moving blanketsFree on every move. Tape to secure the blankets and any boxes used are charged separately.
Boxes on the truckEvery truck carries 5 small, 5 medium, 5 large, 5 dish-pack, 5 picture and 5 wardrobe boxes plus packing paper. Tell us in advance if you need packing, so the crew brings more.
ParkingTwo spaces for a 26-foot truck within 75 feet of the entrance. Permits, where a city requires them, are arranged by the customer.
CancellationFull deposit refund if you cancel within 48 hours of confirming and at least 7 business days before the move. Later cancellations carry a $175 fee; rescheduling costs $75.

Three fields, one written estimate from the office nearest you, no obligation.

Good to know

What affects how long a local move takes?

Three things set the clock on a local move: how much there is to carry, how far the crew carries it, and how ready the home is. A ground-floor apartment with everything boxed loads far faster than a third-floor walk-up where the crew also packs the kitchen. Long hallways, elevators you have to reserve, and a truck parked across the street all add carrying time. Spyder estimators ask about floors, elevators, parking and the big pieces (sectionals, safes, pianos) so the crew size on your estimate matches the job.

  • Disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables and desks is part of the labor time, so remove hardware you want kept separate before the crew arrives.
  • Appliances: refrigerators and freezers are moved empty; the crew does not disconnect gas or water lines.
  • Specialty items: pianos carry a flat charge on top of hourly time ($120 upright, $240 baby grand, $360 antique, plus the same amount per extra flight of stairs). Gun safes and other heavy items are quoted by weight, stairs and access.
  • Protection: basic carrier liability of $0.60 per pound per item is included at no charge. Full replacement coverage is available at $10 or $20 per $1,000 of declared value, depending on the plan, and is chosen on the estimate.

What is included in a local move?

Every local move includes a trained, background-checked crew employed by Spyder, a branded truck, moving blankets, dollies and straps, loading, transport, unloading and placement of furniture in the rooms you point to. Packing, boxes and tape are added only when you ask for them. The same office that quotes the move dispatches the crew, so questions about the arrival window or the crew size go to one phone number.

Why Spyder

Why book local movers through a Spyder office?

Employed, background-checked crews

Every mover is a trained Spyder employee, not a day-labor hire. The same crew loads and unloads your home.

The rate is on paper first

You see the hourly rate, crew size and minimum before you book. Extras only come from what you add, like boxes.

Licensed and registered

Spyder Moving and Storage operates under USDOT 3187084 and MC-132217, and holds Colorado PUC permit HHG-00732 for moves inside Colorado.

Seven-day scheduling

All five offices book moves Monday to Sunday, 7 AM to 7 PM. Morning arrival windows are 2 hours, afternoon 3.

Liability included, upgrades available

Basic liability, $0.60 per pound per item, is included. Full replacement adds $10 or $20 per $1,000 of declared value.

Late crew, your credit

If the crew arrives after the window, you get $15 for every hour of delay. It's company policy, not a promise.

How much does a local move cost?

A local move with Spyder Moving and Storage costs the hourly rate on your estimate multiplied by the hours the crew works, with a 2-hour minimum and 15-minute increments after that. Packing materials, piano or safe handling and protection upgrades are added only if you use them. Ask for a written estimate with your two addresses and the date to see the rate.

What counts as a local move?

A move inside one city or metro area, typically within the same day and under about 100 miles, is a local move and is billed by the hour. Moves over roughly 100 miles or across state lines are priced as long distance moves by mileage, weight and truck space.

How far in advance should I book local movers?

Book 2 to 4 weeks ahead, and earlier for summer weekends and month-end dates. Booking at least 7 business days before the move also keeps the full deposit refund and free rescheduling window available under the company policy.

Do your movers pack as well?

Yes. Every Spyder truck carries boxes, dish-packs, wardrobes and paper, and the crew can pack part or all of the home as part of the labor time. Materials used are charged on the final bill. Tell the office when you book so the crew brings enough supplies.

What do I need to do before the crew arrives?

Empty the refrigerator and freezer, set aside items you are taking yourself, clear walkways, and arrange two parking spaces for a 26-foot truck within 75 feet of the door. If your building needs a certificate of insurance or an elevator reservation, send the requirements to the office a few days before the move.

Can you move heavy items like pianos and safes on a local move?

Yes. Pianos carry a flat charge on top of the hourly time: $120 for an upright, $240 for a baby grand and $360 for an antique piano, plus the same amount for each additional flight of stairs. Gun safes and other heavy items are quoted on the estimate by weight, stairs and access.

Are Spyder movers licensed and insured?

Spyder Moving Services LLC is registered with the FMCSA under USDOT 3187084 and MC-132217, and Spyder Moving and Storage, LLC holds Colorado PUC permit HHG-00732. Basic carrier liability of $0.60 per pound per item is included with every move, and full replacement protection can be added on the estimate.

What happens if my moving date changes?

Tell your sales representative at least 7 business days before the move. Rescheduling carries a $75 service fee and the rate may change with the new date. Cancelling less than 7 business days out forfeits the deposit and a $175 cancellation fee applies.
