Frequently Asked Questions
Clear answers about moving costs, booking, coverage, and moving day from the crews serving Colorado, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
Cost and estimates
4 questionsHow much do movers cost?
Local moves with Spyder Moving and Storage are priced by the hour: the crew's actual working time multiplied by the hourly rate on your estimate, plus travel time, packing materials, and any extra valuation coverage you choose. Every local job has a two-hour minimum. Long-distance moves are priced by mileage, weight, and how much space your shipment takes on the truck. For an exact number, call (800) 221-3560.
Do movers charge for estimates?
No. Spyder Moving and Storage gives free moving estimates by phone or online. Your written estimate shows the hourly rate for a local move or how a long-distance price is figured. A local bill follows the hours the crew works, plus travel time and any packing materials used, and services that were not on the estimate are added only if you need them.
How is time calculated on a local move?
Labor time starts when the crew arrives at your first address and ends when they leave your final destination, including the drive between the two. Time is billed in 15-minute increments at the hourly rate on your estimate. Having everything packed and ready before the crew arrives is the simplest way to keep the total lower.
What is the cheapest time to move?
Weekdays in the middle of the month during fall and winter are usually the least expensive times to move, because demand for movers is lower. Weekends, the first and last days of the month, and the summer peak fill up fastest. If your dates are flexible, ask for a few options when you request your quote.
Booking, deposits and changes
4 questionsHow far in advance should I book movers?
Book as early as you can. Four to eight weeks ahead works for most local moves, while summer, month-end, and long-distance moves in Colorado, Mississippi, and Tennessee should be booked even earlier. Early booking secures your preferred date, since rates depend on availability and dates.
Do I need to pay a deposit to book my move?
Yes. A deposit reserves your moving date with Spyder Moving and Storage and can be paid with any major credit card online or over the phone. The remaining balance is paid at the end of the move.
What is your cancellation policy?
For a full deposit refund, cancel within 48 hours of confirming your reservation and at least 7 business days before your move date. Later cancellations carry a $175 cancellation fee, and if you cancel less than 7 business days before the move, the deposit is not refunded. Full terms are listed in our company policy.
Can I reschedule my move?
Yes. Reschedules must be confirmed with your sales representative at least 7 business days before the original move date. A $75 rescheduling fee applies, and rates may change based on availability on the new date.
On moving day
5 questionsHow much should I tip movers?
Tipping is not required, but it is a common way to thank a crew that did good work. A typical guideline is $20 to $40 per mover for a half-day move and $40 to $60 per mover for a full day, adjusted for stairs, heavy items, or difficult conditions. Cold drinks and snacks on moving day are always appreciated too.
Do I need to be home on moving day?
Yes. You or an authorized representative must be present for the entire move. At the end, do a final walk-through of both homes to confirm everything was loaded and delivered before signing the bill of lading.
Should I help the movers?
No, you don't need to lift or carry anything, and it's safer if you don't. The most helpful things you can do are to finish packing before the crew arrives, clear hallways and doorways, keep kids and pets out of the way, and show the crew which items go to which room.
How do I prepare for moving day?
Have everything packed, labeled, and ready to load before the crew arrives. Reserve two parking spaces for a 26-foot moving truck within 75 feet of the entrance, and get any required parking permit in advance. Empty and defrost refrigerators and freezers, drain aquariums, and keep valuables, documents, and medications with you.
What happens if the movers are late?
Spyder Moving and Storage gives a two-hour arrival window for morning moves and a three-hour window for afternoon moves. If the crew arrives after the window, you receive $15 in compensation for every hour we are late.
Packing, heavy items and storage
6 questionsWhat items will movers not move?
Movers won't transport hazardous or flammable materials such as gasoline, propane, paint, or cleaning chemicals. Refrigerators and freezers must be emptied, and aquariums must be completely empty. Jewelry, cash, important documents, and other high-value items should travel with you, since standard coverage does not apply to them without a special agreement.
Do movers provide boxes and packing supplies?
Yes. Spyder Moving and Storage trucks carry a standard set of small, medium, large, dish-pack, picture, and wardrobe boxes, plus packing paper, and moving blankets are always free. Boxes and supplies used on your move are added to the final cost unless your estimate says otherwise. Let us know ahead of time if you need more packing done.
Do moving companies pack for you?
Yes. Spyder Moving and Storage offers full and partial packing and unpacking services, from fragile glassware and artwork to bulky furniture. Our packers bring the right materials and label every box, so loading and unpacking go faster.
Can you move pianos, gun safes, and other heavy items?
Yes. Our trained crews move pianos, gun safes, grandfather clocks, and other heavy or delicate items with the right equipment. Piano moves start at $120 for an upright, $240 for a baby grand, and $360 for an antique piano, with the same charge added for each extra flight of stairs.
Do you offer storage?
Yes. Spyder Moving and Storage offers short-term and long-term storage for homes and businesses across Mississippi, Tennessee, and Colorado, whether you need a place for your belongings between homes, during a renovation, or on an ongoing basis.
Can movers haul away items I don't want during a move?
Yes, as part of your move. Spyder Moving and Storage can take unwanted furniture and household items away on moving day, so they don't end up in your new home. Disposal must be approved by our staff before the move and is charged per item, from $10 for small pieces like chairs and boxes to $100 for oversized items like mattresses and sofas. We don't offer junk removal as a standalone service.
Long distance moves
2 questionsHow long does a long-distance move take?
Delivery time depends on the distance and the delivery option you choose. Spyder Moving and Storage gives you a specific pickup date and offers two long-distance delivery options: Standard Business Delivery and faster Express Delivery. Your delivery window starts from your first available delivery date, and severe weather or traffic can occasionally cause delays.
How do I pay for a long-distance move?
The deposit is paid by credit card online or over the phone. The remaining balance is due at delivery, before your belongings are unloaded, and must be paid in cash, by certified bank check, or by postal money order made out to Spyder Moving and Storage LLC.
Coverage, licensing and service area
4 questionsDoes moving insurance come with my move?
Every move includes basic Limited Liability coverage at no charge, which pays up to $0.60 per pound per article. For more protection, you can choose Full Replacement Coverage with Depreciated Value at $10 per $1,000 of declared value with a $250 deductible, or Full Replacement Coverage at $20 per $1,000 with a $500 deductible. Valuation is carrier liability rather than insurance, so you can also buy third-party moving insurance before your move.
What if something gets damaged during my move?
Note any damage in writing on the bill of lading before the crew leaves, then submit a written claim to our claims department within 15 days of delivery. Claims are processed once the move is paid in full, so don't deduct damage from your final bill.
How do I know if a moving company is licensed?
Every interstate mover must have a USDOT number registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, which you can look up on the FMCSA website. Spyder Moving and Storage is licensed and bonded under USDOT 3187084, MC-132217, and HHG-00732. We run our own crews and trucks and never broker your move to another carrier.
