“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

Good to know

How does the crew move each type of piano?

  • Upright and console pianos stay upright. The crew wraps the case in blankets, straps it to a piano board or heavy-duty dolly, and rolls it to the truck with the keyboard lid locked.
  • Baby grand and grand pianos are moved on their side: the lid is secured, the pedal lyre and the legs are removed and wrapped separately, the body is wrapped and strapped to a skid board, and everything is reassembled and leveled at the new home.
  • Antique pianos get the same handling with extra padding on carved cases and veneer, and the office confirms the condition of the casters and legs in advance.
  • Stairs are the main variable. Each flight is priced in advance, and the crew brings stair equipment and floor protection for them.

What should you do before and after the move?

Measure doorways and the final spot, and tell the office about tight turns or outdoor steps. Keep the lid closed and the bench separate. After the move, let the piano settle in its new room for a few weeks before scheduling a tuning: humidity and temperature changes affect the pitch more than the ride itself. The crew does not tune or service instruments. Basic carrier liability of $0.60 per pound per item is included; full replacement protection is available on the estimate for valuable instruments.

How much does it cost to move a piano?

Spyder Moving and Storage charges $120 for an upright piano, $240 for a baby grand and $360 for an antique piano, on top of the move time, with the same amount added for each additional flight of stairs. A piano moved on its own is quoted as the charge plus the crew time for that job.

Do you move pianos in Memphis?

Yes. The Memphis office at 3290 New Getwell Rd moves uprights and grands across Shelby County and the eastern suburbs, including dealer deliveries. Call (901) 329-9064 with the piano type and the stairs at both addresses.

Can you move a grand piano?

Yes. The crew secures the lid, removes and wraps the lyre and legs, moves the body on a skid board and reassembles and levels the piano at the new home. Baby grands are $240 plus stairs; antique pianos $360 plus stairs.

Do you move pianos up or down stairs?

Yes. Each additional flight of stairs is priced in advance at the same rate as the piano charge ($120, $240 or $360), and the crew brings stair equipment and floor protection.

Can the piano go into storage between homes?

Yes. Storage is booked with the move through the office handling it. Pianos are blanket-wrapped and kept on a board in storage, and the piano charge applies to each move in and out.

Should I tune the piano after the move?

Wait a few weeks before tuning. The change in room humidity and temperature affects the pitch more than the move itself, and tuning after the piano has settled avoids a second tuning. Spyder crews move pianos but do not tune them.
