Interstate Moving with Spyder

What changes when your move crosses a state line?

An interstate move is any move from one state to another, whether it is 80 miles from Memphis to Oxford or 1,100 miles from Denver to Hattiesburg. The moment the truck crosses the state line, the move falls under federal rules set by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, and the mover must be registered with a USDOT and MC number. Spyder Moving and Storage operates under USDOT 3187084 and MC-132217 and runs interstate moves between its five offices and to the rest of the country on its own trucks. Pricing follows our long distance moving model; request an estimate with both addresses.

“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

Interstate vs. intrastate: which rules apply to your move?

Customers often use "long distance" and "interstate" as one phrase, but the regulator is different depending on where the truck ends up. The table shows what changes for a move handled by Spyder Moving and Storage.

Good to know

How to check an interstate mover before you book

  • Look up the USDOT number on the FMCSA website. Spyder Moving Services LLC appears under USDOT 3187084 with MC-132217; the record shows the carrier is authorized to transport household goods across state lines.
  • Ask who drives the truck. Brokers sell the move and hand it to another carrier. Spyder loads, drives and delivers with its own crews from Oxford, Hattiesburg, Memphis, Denver and Colorado Springs.
  • Get the estimate in writing after an inventory, with the delivery option and the protection level named. A price given over the phone without an inventory is not an estimate.
  • Read the valuation section. Released value is $0.60 per pound per item, so a 100-pound dresser is covered for $60 unless you choose depreciated-value or full replacement protection on the estimate.

Which state pairs does Spyder move between most?

Because the company has offices in three states, the busiest interstate lanes connect them: Colorado to Mississippi and back, Tennessee to Colorado, and the short Memphis-to-Mississippi hop into Oxford, Southaven and Olive Branch. Beyond the three home states, Spyder crews deliver to and collect from Texas, Georgia, Kentucky, Kansas, Florida and both coasts, following the same 600-mile-per-day driving rule that sets transit times on every route. Distances, driving days and the Standard versus Express delivery options are listed on the long distance moving page.

What to prepare for an interstate move

  • A room-by-room inventory for the estimator, including items in the garage, attic and storage unit.
  • Any building rules at the destination: elevator reservations, certificate-of-insurance requirements, truck permits. Two parking spaces for a 26-foot truck within 75 feet of the entrance are needed at both ends.
  • Empty refrigerators and freezers; stopped grandfather clocks; drained aquariums. The crew wraps and crates these but does not service them.
  • Your delivery contact and first available delivery date, which starts the delivery window.
Why Spyder

What an interstate mover must do for you

A carrier, not a broker

Spyder Moving Services LLC is a carrier under USDOT 3187084. Your furniture rides on a Spyder truck driven by a Spyder employee.

Registered in the states we live in

Beyond federal numbers, Spyder holds Colorado PUC permit HHG-00732 for moves inside Colorado and runs offices in Mississippi and Tennessee.

Estimates after an inventory

A video or in-person inventory comes first. The written estimate then lists mileage, shipment size, delivery option and protection level.

Liability spelled out

Released value, $0.60 per pound per item, is included. Depreciated value ($10 per $1,000) and full replacement ($20 per $1,000) are optional.

Fixed pickup, planned delivery

Pickup is a set day. Delivery starts on your first available date, under DOT limits of 600 miles or 10 hours daily.

Offices at both ends of our busiest lanes

Moves between Colorado, Tennessee and Mississippi have an office on each side, so questions at delivery go to a local number.

All five offices book interstate moves. Your estimate comes from the office nearest your pickup address.

Mississippi

Interstate moves into and out of Mississippi

The Oxford and Hattiesburg offices handle interstate moves statewide: Memphis households crossing into DeSoto County, families relocating from Colorado for University of Mississippi jobs, and Gulf Coast moves to Texas, Florida and Georgia. Tennessee-to-Mississippi moves are usually loaded and delivered the same day.

Tennessee

Interstate moves into and out of Tennessee

From Memphis, Spyder crews move households to Mississippi, Arkansas, Colorado, Texas and the East Coast, and bring new residents into Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett and Lakeland. Memphis to the Denver office is about 1,050 highway miles: two driving days under the DOT rule.

Call (800) 221-3560
Five Spyder movers standing in front of a Spyder truck

What is the difference between interstate and long distance moving?

Long distance describes the mileage, usually anything over about 100 miles. Interstate describes the route: the move crosses a state line, which places it under federal FMCSA rules and requires a mover with a USDOT and MC number. A 600-mile move inside Texas is long distance but not interstate; an 80-mile move from Memphis to Oxford is interstate. Spyder Moving and Storage prices both by mileage, weight and truck space.

Is Spyder licensed for interstate moves?

Yes. Spyder Moving Services LLC is registered with the FMCSA under USDOT 3187084 and MC-132217, which authorizes household goods transport across state lines. You can check the record on the FMCSA website before you book.

Do you move from Colorado to Mississippi or Tennessee?

Yes. With offices in Denver, Colorado Springs, Memphis, Oxford and Hattiesburg, Colorado to Mississippi and Colorado to Tennessee are among the lanes Spyder runs most often. Denver to Oxford is about 1,130 miles and Denver to Memphis about 1,050 miles, each quoted as two driving days.

How much liability coverage do I get on an interstate move?

Every interstate shipment carries released value liability of $0.60 per pound per item at no charge. On the estimate you can add depreciated value protection at $10 per $1,000 of declared value ($250 deductible) or full replacement coverage at $20 per $1,000 ($500 deductible). Valuation is carrier liability, not insurance, and excludes items such as jewelry, cash and undismantled particle-board furniture.

How do I pay for an interstate move?

The deposit is paid by credit card when you book. The balance is due at delivery, before unloading, in cash, certified bank check or postal money order payable to Spyder Moving Services LLC.

Can an interstate move include storage?

Yes. If the destination is not ready, storage is booked with the move through the pickup office and written on the same estimate, with delivery to the final address when you are ready.
