Residential Moving with Spyder

Which kind of home are you moving?

A residential move is a home move: a studio with a lift reservation, a townhouse with a tight stairwell, a four-bedroom house with a garage full of tools. Spyder Moving and Storage sizes the crew and the truck to the home, not to a flat package, and puts the hourly rate or the long distance price on a written estimate before the move. Moves inside one metro area are billed by the hour with a 2-hour minimum; moves over about 100 miles are priced by mileage and weight. Get a residential moving estimate by sending your home size and both addresses.

“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

How does the type of home change the move?

The home decides the crew size, the equipment and most of the time on the clock. These are the differences Spyder estimators plan for when they build your residential moving estimate.

Home typeWhat usually takes the timeWhat to arrange before moving day
Apartment or condoCarrying distance from the truck, elevator waits, stairs in walk-ups.Reserve the freight elevator and ask building management whether a certificate of insurance is required; Spyder provides one on request.
TownhouseNarrow interior stairs and turns; large pieces often need disassembly.Point out the pieces that came in through a window or in parts.
Single-family houseVolume: garage, attic, patio and shed items are the ones people forget to list.Walk the estimator through every space, including outdoors.
Home with an HOA or gated entryTruck access rules and move-in hours.Send the HOA rules to the office; two spaces for a 26-foot truck within 75 feet of the door are needed.
Senior or downsizing moveSorting and deciding what goes where.Mark items for the new home, for family and for disposal; Spyder can take unwanted pieces for a per-item fee.

Good to know

What is included, and what is extra?

Every residential move from Spyder Moving and Storage includes the crew, the truck, moving blankets, dollies and straps, disassembly and reassembly of beds, tables and desks, loading, transport, unloading and placement in the rooms you choose. Basic carrier liability of $0.60 per pound per item is included under the company policy.

  • Packing and materials: the truck carries 5 small, 5 medium, 5 large, 5 dish-pack, 5 picture and 5 wardrobe boxes plus paper. Packing labor is part of the hourly time; boxes and tape used are charged. Full and partial packing are described on the packing and unpacking page.
  • Specialty items: pianos carry a flat charge ($120 upright, $240 baby grand, $360 antique, plus the same per extra flight of stairs); gun safes and oversized items are quoted by weight and access.
  • Protection upgrades: depreciated value protection at $10 per $1,000 of declared value, or full replacement coverage at $20 per $1,000, chosen on the estimate.
  • Disposal: unwanted furniture can go with the crew at $10 to $100 per item depending on size, when confirmed with the office before the move.
  • Storage: when closing dates do not line up, storage is booked on the same estimate.

How should you prepare the home?

Empty the refrigerator and freezer; the crew moves them empty and does not disconnect gas or water lines. Stop the mechanism on a grandfather clock and drain any aquarium; the crew wraps and crates both but does not service them. Keep medication, documents, jewelry and cash with you, because valuation does not cover items of extraordinary value. Label boxes by room, and on moving day stay on site or leave an authorized adult: the clock runs until the final walk-through and payment, and the bill of lading you sign at the end is where any damage must be noted.

Why Spyder

What you get on every residential move

Estimate built from your rooms

The estimator asks about every room, garage and attic, then puts the crew size and rate on paper. No flat packages.

Blankets are free, always

Every piece of furniture is blanket-wrapped at no charge. You pay only for boxes and tape used, listed on the final bill.

Reassembly included

Beds, tables, desks and cribs are taken apart and put back together at the new home, as part of labor time.

Buildings with rules are routine

The office handles freight elevator slots, COI requests and HOA truck hours before moving day. The 26-foot truck needs two parking spaces.

Liability stated in writing

Released value, $0.60 per pound per item, is included. Full replacement is offered at $10 or $20 per $1,000 of declared value.

How much do residential movers cost?

For a move inside one metro area, Spyder Moving and Storage charges the hourly rate on your estimate for the crew size and date, with a 2-hour minimum and 15-minute increments. For a move over about 100 miles, the price is set by mileage, weight and truck space. Boxes, piano or safe handling and protection upgrades are added only when used.

Do you move apartments in buildings with elevators and COI requirements?

Yes. Reserve the freight elevator with your building and send the certificate-of-insurance requirements to the office when you book; Spyder provides the COI. Elevator waiting time and the carry from the truck count as labor time, so a reserved slot keeps the move shorter.

Will the movers take apart and reassemble my furniture?

Yes. Beds, dining tables, desks and cribs are disassembled and reassembled by the crew as part of the labor time. Particle-board furniture must be disassembled to be covered under the valuation options, so tell the crew which pieces are press-wood.

What should I do with my refrigerator, aquarium and grandfather clock?

Empty the refrigerator and freezer before the crew arrives; they are moved empty and the crew does not take responsibility for the mechanical condition. Drain the aquarium completely. Stop the mechanism of a grandfather clock yourself; the crew removes and packs the pendulum and weights, blanket-wraps and crates the case, and reinstalls them at delivery.

Can you take furniture I no longer want?

Yes, when it is confirmed with the office before the move. Disposal is charged per item: $10 for small items such as chairs and boxes, $20 for medium items such as tables and recliners, $40 for large items such as dressers and bed frames, and $100 for oversized items such as mattresses and sofas.

How far ahead should I book a home move?

Two to four weeks is usual, and longer for month-end and summer weekends. Confirming at least 7 business days before the date keeps rescheduling available for a $75 fee and protects the deposit refund.

Do you move homes between Tennessee and Mississippi?

Yes. The Memphis office and the Oxford office are about 80 miles apart, and moves between Shelby County and DeSoto County, Oxford or Tupelo are loaded and delivered the same day as interstate moves under USDOT 3187084.
