Packing & Unpacking Services with Spyder

How do packing services work with a Spyder move?

Packing is not a separate company or a separate visit. The same Spyder Moving and Storage crew that loads the truck can pack the whole home the day before, pack the kitchen and the breakables on the morning of the move, or unpack and flatten boxes at the new address. Packing labor is billed as part of the hourly move time, and materials are charged by what is actually used. Moving blankets are always free. Tell the office how much packing you want when you request your estimate, so the crew arrives with enough boxes.

“True professionals”

Second time moving with Spyder in Denver and WOW, true professionals- they get the job done so fast while being incredibly careful. After my first move with them went so well they were no doubt my first call the second time around. They even helped me get my TV off the wall and my large fragile mirrors that I couldn’t do myself. Makes all the difference to have friendly and efficient movers.

“Worth every penny”

Ours was a local move. Their bid was $900 less than the competitions. Charles and his crew came on time, worked very hard on a very hot day and completed the work in the eight hour timeframe that they had bid. They moved our baby grand piano, which we cherish and did a very fine job. If I have to move again, I’ll call Spyder and ask for Charles and his crew.

“Smooth move to Memphis”

Charles did a great job packing and moving my things from Oxford, MS to Memphis, TN. They did a great job handling my heavier pieces. They were very kind and helpful.

Good to know

What packing materials are on every truck?

Every Spyder truck carries a standard set under the company policy: 5 small, 5 medium, 5 large, 5 dish-pack, 5 picture and 5 wardrobe boxes plus a bundle of packing paper. That set covers the breakables of a typical apartment on moving day. For full packing or a large house, tell the office in advance so the crew brings more. Boxes and tape used are charged on the final bill; moving blankets for furniture are free on every move.

  • Dish-packs are double-walled boxes for plates, glasses and stemware, packed with paper between every piece.
  • Wardrobe boxes have a hanging bar, so closets move on hangers.
  • Picture boxes hold framed art, mirrors and TVs in their original box or wrapped with padding.
  • Small, medium and large boxes for books, kitchen contents, linens and decor, labeled by room.

Why does professional packing change what is covered?

Under the company policy, breakage of fragile items such as china and glassware is covered by the valuation options only when Spyder packed and unpacked them, or when the damage comes from fire, theft or a vehicle accident. That is the practical reason to let the crew pack the kitchen and the breakables even on a move where you pack everything else. Electronics are moved in their packing but their internal workings are not covered under any option, so back up computers before the move.

How much does packing cost?

Packing labor on a local move is billed at the hourly rate on your estimate, in 15-minute increments, as part of the move time. On a long distance move, packing is listed as a separate line on the written estimate. Materials are charged by what is used. Ask the office for the current box and tape prices when you book, and name the rooms you want packed so the hours on the estimate reflect the work.

Why Spyder

Why have the movers pack?

One crew, one bill

The packers are the movers. Packing hours and the move are on the same written estimate from the same office.

Materials by use, not by package

Boxes and tape are charged for what the crew actually uses, listed on the final bill. Moving blankets for furniture are free.

Kitchen-first packing

Dish-packs with paper between every plate and glass, wardrobe boxes for closets, picture boxes for art and TVs.

Coverage that follows the packing

Breakage of fragile items is covered under the valuation options when Spyder packed and unpacked them. Choose one at the estimate.

Stocked for last-minute changes

Every truck carries 30 boxes and a paper bundle, so a crew can pack a kitchen even on a self-packed move.

Unpacking to the shelf

Unpacking puts contents on counters and in closets and takes the empty boxes away, not just opens them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Call (800) 221-3560
Furniture packed tight inside a Spyder truck

Will the movers pack up my whole house?

Yes. Full packing covers every room, with boxes labeled by room and furniture blanket-wrapped, and is usually done the day before loading for a house or on the morning of the move for an apartment. Tell the office when you book so the crew brings enough materials.

How much does packing cost on top of the move?

On a local move, packing is billed as part of the hourly move time at the rate on your estimate, in 15-minute increments. On a long distance move it is a line on the written estimate. Materials are charged by what is used; moving blankets are free.

Can I pack some things myself and have you pack the rest?

Yes. Partial packing is the most common choice: you pack books, clothes and linens, and the crew packs the kitchen, glass, art, lamps and electronics on moving day. Boxes you pack yourself are moved as they are.

Do you offer unpacking?

Yes. Unpacking means the crew opens the boxes, places contents on counters and in closets, and flattens and removes the empty boxes, so the kitchen and bedrooms are usable the first night.

What boxes and materials do you bring?

Every Spyder truck carries 5 small, 5 medium, 5 large, 5 dish-pack, 5 picture and 5 wardrobe boxes plus packing paper. For a full pack the crew brings more when the office knows in advance. Boxes and tape used are charged on the final bill.

Are items you pack covered if they break?

Under the company policy, breakage of fragile items such as china and glassware is covered by the valuation options when Spyder packed and unpacked them. Basic liability of $0.60 per pound per item is included; full replacement coverage can be added on the estimate.
